The ARC: a social, seafarer adventure

The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) is one of the most popular, yet different races and a must for many sailors. Attracting over 200 boats and 1.200 people every year, the ARC sails across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria (Spain) to Saint Lucia and draws the perfect scenario to be in the shoes of a transoceanic cruiser, just for fun.

Rather than a race, the ARC is a social experience, thought for anyone in love with the sea and willing to have fun. You can find from families with children to couples or experienced sailors, both on board of big modern boats and modest ones. The ARC is an adventure, an excuse to bond with friends and to get to know new people even before sailing, as activities start on the ground.

Again, the ARC isn’t a race: it is a rally. The competition organizers define it as social cruising, which is based on fun as main element. Preparation is needed, sure. But there are no strict rules to follow and almost any boat and crew can participate in this competition (you can even use engines and change batteries!). The most important requisite is to feel confident and prepared and to share the experience with the ones you love, who at the same time love the sea as much as you do. There are no winners or losers; just taking part is a victory.

Once in Saint Lucia, the reward is a complete sea master experience. Think about the seafarer cliché: tough tattooed guys and a rum toast to celebrate a great achievement such as crossing the ocean on a small sailboat. So, relax and enjoy the experience, you will enjoy a complete celebration once you reach land.

In the end, the ARC is a complete adventure for everyone to share and the perfect excuse to leave worries and duties behind.
